Ballet is one of the most demanding but also one of the most enjoyable dance forms ever created, providing benefits such as good posture, discipline and confidence building. We run Royal Academy of Dance Graded and Vocational classes encouraging the joy of movement in children from 3 years of age at our studio in Beckenham, Kent. We offer annual outings to the Royal Opera House, hold workshops and other dance related events.
ROYAL ACADEMY OF DANCE EXAM RESULTS ARE IN.
Well done to all students who took their ballet exams in the autumn term. We had a super set of results 80% of which were Distinction the others all very high Merit (70+). Of particular note were the three Intermediates entered Edie, Emily and Pascale who all gained Distinction. Time to celebrate dancers!
Baby Ballet Classes Monday & Saturday.
We hold classes starting at 3 years of age for pre school ballet on Monday at 3.15-4.00pm or Saturday at 2.00-2.45pm. It is an excellent introduction into the structure of ballet lessons, lots of images and themes are involved in the class, designed so that they are performing ballet exercises in a manner that is fun and stimulating. These are informal, imaginative ballet classes taken by a fully qualified and registered teacher. Children may attend a trial lesson on one of these days, please contact the school for further information.
Adult Ballet Tuesdays 8-9pm Dust of your shoes, dig out your leotards and dance!
Adult ballet is a great way to get toned, improve posture, coordination and connect with the inner dancer! If you danced as a child or student and are keen to dust of your ballet shoes again do come and join our enthusiastic, energetic group in Beckenham. In autumn 2014 alongside barre and centre work we learnt a wonderful hat dance whilst dancing to Gershwin, played by our wonderful pianist Cliodna. Ballet class with a live pianist, total joy! Come along in 2015 as part of your new year resolution if you want to get fit, start a new hobby, or discover the wonderful world of ballet.
The Royal Academy of Dance was founded in 1920 to maintain the quality of dance teaching. Its Patron is Queen Elizabeth II and the President is Darcey Bussell. It's currently present in 79 countries worldwide and is one of the leading organisations in dance education and training. We hold regular ballet examinations at our dance studio in Beckenham. Children from the age of seven are considered for entry for grade one upwards when they have reached the required level of technique and performance. This term our examiner was Miss K Purvis. Well done to all candidates who worked hard over the autumn term.
We hosted a photographic session at the school on Saturday 25th October. Jason and Dariusz, two professional photographers from Ashwood & Stanton took individual and sibling photographs at the school. The event was fully booked and much fun was had by all, everyone who took part was a star and responded brilliantly. The pictures are now available for ordering, they are gorgeous!
A group from the school visited the Royal Opera House to watch company class on the 3rd October. This proved an inspirational event in which we were all amazed by Principals Sarah Lamb and her flexibility, Steven McRae and his turns. The jumps...no one individual can be singled out, but stunning. For those who couldn't attend the event due to limited tickets paste the link below to see a class taken by the Royal Ballet Company a couple of days earlier for World Ballet Day. Watch and be inspired!
Congratulations to the Royal Academy of Dance Examination students who took grades One, Six and Seven Intermediate in the Autumn 2014 session. All were successful, 80% awarded Distinction.
